What YOU Can Do- Elementary School

Learning about immigration is important, but helping others is even more important. There are many simple ways you can help.

Know your rights. Everyone in the United States has basic rights, no matter where they were born. The Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC) has free "Red Cards" that explain these rights. People can carry these cards if they need them.

Have a family plan. Families can make a plan in case someone has to leave suddenly. They can write down important phone numbers and decide who will help take care of children if needed.

Ask the right people for help. Some people say they are lawyers when they are not. It is important to get help from a real lawyer or a trusted legal aid group.

Keep learning. Immigration rules can change. Reading information from trusted groups can help people know what is happening.

Help others. You can share information, help translate for someone who speaks another language, or volunteer in your community.

Small actions can make a big difference. Learning, planning, and helping others can make people feel safer and stronger.
