Congresswoman Introduces "Orlin's Law" After Death of 3-Year-Old Boy- Elementary School

A new bill called Orlin's Law has been introduced in Congress by Representative Pramila Jayapal. A bill is a proposal for a new law that lawmakers are discussing.
This proposal was created after a very sad event involving a 3-year-old boy named Orlin Hernandez Reyes.
Orlin's mother was taken into custody by immigration officers and sent back to her home country of Honduras. Her lawyer and court records show that she asked officers to let her take her young son with her. However, the officers did not allow him to go, and Orlin was left in Florida with a relative. Tragically, Orlin later died while living there.
An official from the immigration agency claimed the mother chose to leave her child behind. However, her attorney and legal records say that was not true, and that she asked to stay with her son the entire time.
What Would Orlin's Law Do?
Representative Jayapal introduced this proposed law to try to prevent something like this from happening again. If passed, the law would:
Keep families together: Stop officers from separating parents and children unless there is clear evidence that the parent is dangerous.
Give parents a choice: Allow parents who are detained to make important decisions about who cares for their children.
Allow families to stay together: Give parents the option to bring their children with them if they are sent back to their home country.
Supporters believe this proposal will help protect children and keep families together.
Because it is currently just a bill, lawmakers in Congress must vote on it. To become an official law, it must pass both the House of Representatives and the Senate, and then be signed by the President.
